"Rick Foster isn't like anybody you've ever heard. He likes to play hymn tunes, among other things, on his guitar. He also happens to be one of the greatest arrangers in the world for the classical guitar: those were his versions of 'Sheep May Safely Graze' and 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' on Chris Parkening's Bach album. He plays 'Sheep May Safely Graze' and a whole lot of other things on A Poem for You, as eclectic a two-record album as you're ever likely to come across. The fare includes everything from Merle Travis and Jerry Reed to Bach and Villa-Lobos, all wildly different and beautifully played." |
